The Unbearable Lightness of Saying “No”

‘When you say ‘Yes’ to others, make sure you are not saying ‘No’ to yourself.’

Paulo Coelho

When was the last time you said ‘no’ with complete peace of mind? Or did your answer turn into a depressing ‘yes’ because of all the self-created obligations, responsibilities, and ‘it’ll be rude’ scenarios.

That dinner date you’d actually rather not attend or that project proposal representing an unnecessary workload, managed to get a ‘yes’ out of you while you didn’t even see ‘no’ as an option. The road to making your dreams a reality passes through the ability to say no to things you really don’t want. You should also eliminate the idea of presenting the other person with a bunch of excuses and explanations. It’s simply enough to politely thank them and convey your negative response.

This week say no to a proposal that you’re unsure of with complete peace of mind and a smile on your face. The ability of spending that time on yourself instead and taking a further step toward the life you desire will make you feel very good.
